Civil Unions vs. Marriage

Finally, if sexual preferences were not so obviously displayed in public, chances are straight people would never know or complain as they do.

(PASO ROBLES, Calif.) - I believe that marriage should be between one man and one woman for obvious reasons.

I believe in Civil Unions for persons of the same sex who do not fit the definition of marriage; nor can I understand why those who qualify for Civil Union insist they be considered “married,” in contradiction to the definition of “marriage.”

God knows there are as many Civil Ceremonies of marriage as there are those considered consecrated by the Church. Both unions are legal and binding under the law.

So why make an issue of the word “marriage” when a Civil Union is virtually the same, only different for apparent reasons.

If the rights of a Civil Union are less than those of a marriage, I wish they would be displayed for all to see, and if they are less why not make them equal and put this argument to rest.

Finally, if sexual preferences were not so obviously displayed in public, chances are straight people would never know or complain as they do.

I am opposed to anyone who suggests that people who are different from the commonly accepted "norm" should somehow hide or mask themselves from the "normal people" so as not to shock, offend or inconvenience them. A lot of people are uncomfortable seeing people in wheelchairs or amputees in public. Maybe we should work on keeping those blights of humanity out of the public eye so that "whole" people do not notice or complain as they do. (Same logic...sounds stupid, right ?)That is "what my beef is"..and BTW, I am not gay, nor an amputee..just a human being that does not think I am any better than anyone else. People who complain are the problem here.

Vic, you are really out of it! What the hell is your beef, and with whom? Why make a mountain out of a mole hill? Relax, man.

"Finally, if sexual preferences were not so obviously displayed in public, chances are straight people would never know or complain as they do." Yep..and if all the Negroes and Mexicans would stay indoors and not so obviously display their other-coloredness in public, chances are white people would never know or complain as they do....right? Got news for the Christian right.."public" includes gays, blacks, Hispanics, Jews, midgets, anarchists, hippies and lots of other people you look down on and feel superior to. And "marriage" is an entirely man-made concept no more sanctioned by God than joining the Elks Club is. Can anyone prove differently?(Quotes from one of the 80 or so different versions of the Bible do not count as "proof" )
