Black Eyed Peas and Obama say 'Yes We Can'

The new video featuring Barack Obama and the Black Eyed Peas is a hit on YouTube.

(SALEM, Ore.) - A new song featuring Presidential Candidate Barack Obama is being watched by millions. It is as unlikely as the candidate himself but proof that change is inevitable in the future of this great nation and that we have the capability of growing in good ways in spite of some of our bad traits.

The song and video feature a star cast, by will.i.am of the Black Eyed Peas, along with several celebrities including Kate Walsh, Scarlett Johansson, and John Legend (to name a few) have gotten together to pay homage to Democratic Presidential candidate Barack Obama.

will.i.am of The Black Eyed Peas says the song is inspired by Barack Obama’s ‘Yes We Can’ speech

Here are the lyrics:

It was a creed written into the founding documents that declared the destiny of a nation.

Yes we can.

It was whispered by slaves and abolitionists as they blazed a trail toward freedom.

Yes we can.

It was sung by immigrants as they struck out from distant shores and pioneers who pushed westward against an unforgiving wilderness.

Yes we can.

It was the call of workers who organized; women who reached for the ballots; a President who chose the moon as our new frontier; and a King who took us to the mountaintop and pointed the way to the Promised Land.

Yes we can to justice and equality.

Yes we can to opportunity and prosperity.

Yes we can heal this nation.

Yes we can repair this world.

Yes we can.

We know the battle ahead will be long, but always remember that no matter what obstacles stand in our way, nothing can stand in the way of the power of millions of voices calling for change.

We have been told we cannot do this by a chorus of cynics...they will only grow louder and more dissonant ........... We've been asked to pause for a reality check. We've been warned against offering the people of this nation false hope.

But in the unlikely story that is America, there has never been anything false about hope.

Now the hopes of the little girl who goes to a crumbling school in Dillon are the same as the dreams of the boy who learns on the streets of LA; we will remember that there is something happening in America; that we are not as divided as our politics suggests; that we are one people; we are one nation; and together, we will begin the next great chapter in the American story with three words that will ring from coast to coast; from sea to shining sea

Tim the last time Oregon voters actually voted regarding not allowing gay marriage, the status quo was maintained and the one-man/ one-woman marriage is still part of the state's constitution. The domestic partner act has nothing to do with a lawful marriage, and the legislature is not empowered to change the constitution on their own. I assure you if they (democrats) thought that a new statewide vote would change the constitution in this matter it would be on November's ballot. As I am sure most people would agree America is pretty well split down the middle when it comes to party identification. Note: I am not a republican and want Bush gone yesterday, but am a proud conservative and I believe the majority of Americans are also conservative in their mores/values. It appears the democratic party is also split down the middle so using that calculus it seems that Obama has around 25% of the [entire] country's primary voter's behind him and "75%" who are not, 25% is a distinct minority. My assessment of Obama as someone as using "flowery rhetoric" is based on my observations of his record coupled with listening and evaluating his speeches via my life experience, ergo an opinion.

Jefferson, please be careful as to what you say here. If you suggest things that are factually incorrect, then the comment will not be approved. For the record, the opening statement claiming that Oregon does not support gay marriage is not true. In fact, the domestic partner process took a big step forward just last week. Also, Obama is not by any realistic assessment, a person who puts forth "flowery rhetoric" unless that is, the person listening to his speech has a set of earplugs firmly planted. I want Jefferson and others from the conservative community to post their thoughts here but you have to pass the fact checker and the points presented here are challenged to say the least. I do note Jefferson that you are attempting to be civil, but if your politics equate to opinion presented as fact and in fact the points are not accurate, they will not be approved. THANKS

No doubt Obama has quite an "affect" on a significant percentage of voter's. I still have heard nothing of substance from him, just lot's of flowery rhetoric. I would imagine if he becomes the general election candidate (or VP candidate), he or Clinton will be confronted on certain issue positions. For example here in Oregon, voters (as are the majority of America's voters), only want marriage between one man one woman...what's his/their position? Obama wants to issue driver's license to illegal's, well over 80% of Americans do not, so what will he do? I would like to know what he thinks of the movement by Ward Connerly(an African-American educator) who has led successful multi-state elections to overturn affirmative action programs that have turned into defacto quota programs and if he agrees that it's time to dismantle this racist policy? In terms of real leadership and experience just what does he really have, other than voting present over 100 times rather than making a decision, why? Though many people have become complacent, we are at war, and Obama simply does not have the experience this nation needs. I could go on and on, but Obama's glib answers will not cut it in the general election. Either him or Clinton will rally the conservatives, the independents and the Reagan democrats. I assure you if either Clinton or Obama waffle on their positions (or provide just glib doublespeak) there will be "527's" making sure America knows. The mainstream media's influence is waning, they no longer have the power they once had. So who do you think America's enemies would like to see win? P.S. Talk to an urban cop who has been around for a while and knows how to cut through glib rhetoric and ask them who Obama reminds them of? I don't expect you young people to understand where many of us are coming from, but we love our country and quite frankly we see through the smoke and mirrors of Clinton/Obama. They will not win next November!

Hillary is George Bush. Angry, divisive "I'm right", "I'm the decider" - Hillary is just on the other side of the political spectrum. Her nomination would mobilize the Republican party like nothing else. But, in the end, this isn't about "Hillary v. Obama"; it's about hope. It's about a man who inspires, who unifies, and who can heal the rifts in this nation and bring real change. That man, the next president of these United States, is OBAMA! (Former Hillary supporter)

Obama is an inspiration and brings hope; perhaps some people don’t understand what it is. I cried when I watch this video. There is something in me that it is hard to describe, but every time I hear Obama speak, it feels surreal, I get chills and my heart feels weird. I believe Obama is our answer; He brings true hope and makes me feel that our nation can do better. Obama represents our country. I don’t feel the same when Hillary speaks. Obama is a great man, a leader, and the best hope for a better tomorrow.

i sit here some hundreds of miles away from America, but this healing restorative balm is a sweet smelling fragance for many of us who would have reached a fatalistic resignation to life. Some may say that its just emtionalism, but i submit, yes, that may be true. The geater truth though, is that it is the most powerful tool used to reawaken, to inject a sense of "hope" into an otherwise written-off person. It is the genesis of change. This collaborative effort by those artiste and other celebs, is evidedence of the powerful and positive domino effect that Obama has initiated. The bigger advocates of changed though, are ourselves : having recieved just a spark-a spark that we knew all too well, but more often not, was drowned in the hopelessness surronding us. i am here rallying for change...a change for better! Regardless of the outcome of this election, america would have have recieved a regenerative oasis. that will serve as inspiration for leaders and followers alike, it would have affected the young confused teenager or the struggling single parent to think positively.... because "YES WE CAN" May God bless America!

Pretty much most of what is in this song can just as easily apply to Clinton (or Edwards had he done better and not bowed out). It is pretty much an anti-neocon anti-theofascist anthem. Quite nicely done. I'm wondering if we will end up with a Clinton/Obama ticket or an Obama/Clinton ticket in the final analysis. Ah well...
