(SALEM) - Salem’s 12th Street Pedestrian Safety Promenade will be featured on the DISH Network satellite television Tuesday evening. John Z Wetmore, host of the television series "Perils For Pedestrians", interviews Salem engineer Rick Barnes about the promenade.

An old frontage road next to the railroad tracks was converted to a wide shared-use pedestrian path that is both safe and pleasant to use. A modest fence provides a buffer from passing trains, and encourages pedestrians to use the designated crossings across the railroad tracks and 12th Street.

Other stories on the program include a pedestrian bridge that reunites a neighborhood divided by a highway in Columbia, South Carolina, and new techniques being used to analyze the pedestrian environment in Rockville, Maryland. Wetmore also covers the third New Partners For Smart Growth Conference in Portland, and interviews a New York resident about pedestrians in the city of South Nyack.

"Perils For Pedestrians" will be shown on DISH Network Channel 9411, The Universityhouse Channel, at 6:30 pm PST on Tuesday, January 2. For those who do not subscribe to DISH Network, the program can also be seen below, or at: www.youtube.com/watch?v=wtheKDWKuvA
