(SALEM, Ore.) - Police say an 18-year old Portland male was seriously injured Monday evening when he lost control of his speeding vehicle on Highway 213 just south of the Clackamas/Marion County line and was ejected as his vehicle rolled. Another driver traveling in a separate vehicle associated with this crash was taken into custody.

Around 6:00 PM, investigators say a 2006 Kia Spectra driven by 18-year old Daniy Tyshkevich of Portland, was southbound on Highway 213 at a high rate of speed when it left the roadway near Wagon Road just south of the Clackamas / Marion County line. The Kia began to roll over and struck a power pole, ejecting Tyshkevich.

Tyshkevich was reportedly not using safety restraints and was seriously injured. He was taken by LifeFlight to Legacy Emanuel Hospital in Portland.

A second vehicle associated with the crash, a 1997 Ford Taurus driven by 20-year old Nicholas Gonzales of Silverton, was also southbound behind the Kia at a high rate of speed. The Taurus did not crash but did pull over when the Kia crashed. Gonzales was taken into custody and lodged in Marion County Jail for Reckless Driving and Recklessly Endangering Another Person. His passenger, 18-year old Daniel Skiles of Milwaukie, was not charged with any crime.

Oregon State Police troopers from the Salem Area Command office are continuing the investigation. They say speed is a contributing factor.

Assistance at the scene provided by Mt. Angel Police Department, Mt. Angel Fire Department, Woodburn Ambulance, ODOT, and PGE. PGE remained on scene to replacing the power pole. The highway was closed until about 1:00 AM.
