Man Dies Tragically After Becoming Disoriented

Mr. Burwick spent 25 years in the Navy and an additional 11 years with the City of Salem as a Parking Enforcement Official, he retired in 1980.

(SALEM) - On Wednesday the 4th the Marion County Sheriff's Office responded to what appeared to be a motor vehicle crash in the 5600 block of Center Street NE. Tragically this was not the case.

According to family George Burwick age 76 left his residence in the 4800 block of Lancaster Drive NE on the evening of the 3rd.

Mr. Burwick had been suffering from some memory loss according to Harlen Bell Mr. Burwick's son. Mr. Bell stated, "I think he just got lost."

According to deputies it appears Mr. Burwick exited his vehicle, tripped, fell and hit his head. By the time Mr. Burwick was found it is believed he had spent several hours out in the elements.

Mr. Burwick was transported to the Salem Hospital but unfortunately he passed away.

The Sheriff's Office does not know the official cause of Mr. Burwick's death but foul play is not suspected.

Family states he will truly be missed. The family of Mr. Burwick has requested that any questions be directed through the Marion County Public Information Officer and they appreciate privacy during their time of grieving.
