Red Cross Opens Four Evacuation Centers in Oregon

Several Oregon towns and cities are hit hard by the severe weather.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - The Oregon Trail Chapter of the American Red Cross has opened four evacuation centers in response to current weather events.

The locations are:

  • St. Helens -- Lewis and Clark Elementary, 111 S. 9th Street
  • Vernonia -- St. Mary's Church, 960 Missouri Avenue
  • Clatskanie -- Clatskanie High School, 471 SW Belair Drive
  • Tillamook -- Tillamook County Fairgrounds, 4603 E. 3rd Street

There are additional centers in these areas operated by other organizations. As of 11:00 AM, there were 30 people at the Tillamook center. Due to phone outages, updated numbers are not available.

Salem-News.com reported shortly after 1:00 PM today that there are power outages and phone lines are down in the towns of Newport, Lincoln City, Astoria, and Seaside are without power. In many cases, cell phone service has also been interrupted.
