It has already robbed our WARRIOR CLASS – Army and Marines – a dreadful cost in wounded, death and treasure.
(MOLALLA, Ore.) - My greatest support is for my fellow Army Dogfaces and Marine Grunts. We don’t ask to go to war to kill or be killed but we go trying to ignore the questionable politics of why we are there. From my frontline foxhole I saw only two options: Number One: to defeat the enemy and then GO HOME; the second option is/was not even real nor realistic. The second option is to tuck our tails between our legs and have the enemy shooting at our backs as we try to retreat into defeat. The losses would be horrific. We cannot just up and leave. The Jihadist enemy have no concern for their own deaths (after all they will go to heaven with 40 virgins). They have even less concern for our deaths – the more the better. Battle strategy for victory is simple – overwhelming force in men and guns is absolutely necessary. For our battle warriors in Iraq and Afghanistan we/they have almost never had such strength. The original success in Iraq was because those ill-equipped fighters did not want to be fighting and wanted to live in the face of overwhelming lethal force. The situation in Afghanistan is far different. For whatever reason we have NEVER had enough Infantry boots on the ground and rifles on the shoulder to make more than a dent on the brainwashed Jihadists who were seeking a martyrs death. There is only ONE way to fight these brainwashed hopeful MARTYRS. That is overwhelming force. The two wars at once concept (Iraq and Afghanistan) ON THE CHEAP only sacrificed thousands of wounded and dead for NO real advantage. We’ve been there 8 years and we are in worse shape now than when we started. The CHEAP WAR philosophy of Rumsfeld was a dreadful mistake 8 years ago. It has already robbed our WARRIOR CLASS – Army and Marines – a dreadful cost in wounded, death and treasure. Let us hope it’s not too late. Our enemy Osama bin Laden has been able to recruit brainwashed Jihadists for 8 years from all over the world. They seek death! We must give them what they want. Then we can go home. THIS IS OUR ONLY SENSIBLE OPTION! ********************************************* Before any of that, Phil Leveque was a Combat Infantryman in the U.S. Army in WWII. He suffers from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder more than 60 years after the war, and specialized in treating Veterans with PTSD during his years as a doctor in Molalla, Oregon. In order to achieve any level of "success" in Afghanistan, it was necessary to reinforce the woefully inadequate and undersupplied forces on the ground there. President Obama made a tough choice, after much deliberation...and the right one. @Anonymous, you are pot-shotting our President incognito...your comment shows a sadly typical lack of knowledge on the issue. Of paramount importance is the safety of our troops and those of ally nations there to assist us. We cannot simply "cut and run", leaving the Afghan people to sort out the mess we've made for them. We must continue to educate them and train them in methods of establishing workable controls of their environment. Nor can we evacuate pell mell, hastily and hazardously exposing our rear to "anonymous" attackers only too happy to shoot us in the back. More troops and equipment were necessary to extricate our forces in an orderly manner, and to minimize the harms to the troops and civilians alike. The timetable our President established is not concrete; but allows us to withdraw combat troops gradually, while simultaneously giving the Afghan peoples the opportunity to restore the shambles in which they find their country, to some semblance of order and security. Bush's bungling left Afghanistan undermanned, poorly planned, and basically damned. And for what? To invade Iraq for completely fabricated reasons. Those troops should have been focused on finishing the important task at hand -- reigning in the Taliban and obliterating Al Qaeda and Bin Laden's lunatic legacy.

That's right, he inherited the mess but Obama made it worse. He promised to take out the troops, to end the war. Obama lied. Obama even set a time table for withdraw. Obama made a total fool out of himself after that speech last night. He had a choice, bring home the troops (what the majority of the American people want) or send more and turn them in to sitting ducks and getting killed. With these rules of Engagement this will happen. So, don't blame it on Bush. It's Obama's war, end of story.
