(SALEM, Ore. ) - Salem is getting it's first snowfall of the winter season. I know it's NOT Breaking News, but it's fun to see those little white flakes falling.

The snow began falling just after 8:30 AM in the south and west Salem hills. Salem-News.com has also had reports this morning of light snow showers in the west hills of Portland, Newport, Lincoln City, Otis, and at Spirit Mountain Casino in Grand Ronde. At 9:00 AM the snow showers increased, but so far there are no reports of any problems in the Salem-area.

The National Weather Service says that snowfall in the Salem-area will be light today, and sticking snow is expected to be around 500 feet and rise to 1000 feet early Saturday evening. Accumulations of 1 to 2 inches are possible, mainly above 500 feet.

At 9:00 AM, the temperature at Salem's McNary Field was 34 degrees.

After the snow began falling, I could hear kids throughout the neighborhood yelling with joy, and parents screaming: "Put your coat on!"

Salem-News.com will have all the latest snow information throughout the day.

Great story with a personal touch. We had a little snow too here in McMinnville.
