Salem Police Identify Woman Who Was Burned Under Salem Bridge Tuesday

(SALEM) - The State Medical Examiner and Salem police have identified the woman who was burned to death early Tuesday morning as 20-year-old June “Candy” Kell.

At approximately 1:00 AM, Tuesday, a Salem Police Patrol Officer saw smoke coming from underneath the bridge near the 500 block of 13th St. SE.

The officer investigated and discovered a body burning.

The body was examined by the State Medical Examiner and the cause of death was determined to be by homicidal violence.

Salem Police Detectives have tentatively identified the body as that of June "Candy" Kell.

Detectives are working on positive identification through DNA and dental records.

From items found near the body, detectives believe it to be Kell.

According to Detective Jamie Vasas, Kell arrived in Salem approximately seven months ago.

She frequented the downtown bus transit mall.

Detectives are asking for the public's help in retracing Kell's steps on Monday, August 30th.
