(SALEM) - Salem police are investigating a body that was found on fire early Tuesday morning in the 500 block of 13th Street SE. Sgt. Mike Scanlon says at around 1:00 AM, an officer, while on a routine patrol, observed smoke and fire coming from an area located under a bridge. As the officer approached the fire, he was able to determine that it was a person on fire. Responding officers extinguished the fire but could determine that the person was deceased Scanlon said. Detectives are investigating the incident as a suspicious death and are awaiting the arrival of the Oregon State Police Crime Lab to assist in the investigation. The identity of the individual, and the cause of the fire are unknown at this time. Stay with Salem-News.com for more on this developing story.
