(SALEM, Ore.) - One of the Northwest’s hottest summer events returns Friday, August 21, with the 10th annual Night of Fire Benefit Car Show in Salem, Oregon.

This year’s Night of Fire benefits 10-year old Daisy Keiffer of Salem who is battling Ewing’s Sarcoma, an aggressive form of cancer. The general public can help Keiffer by attending this family event that includes dragster fire-ups by the Capitol Auto Group racing team, hot rods, street rods, customs, low riders, muscle cars, and antique vehicles.

The main feature of this years’ event will be a jet car display with the War Hawk Funny Car set to thrill with its spectacular 30-foot flame show.

There will be an auction and raffle items provided by some of the biggest racing teams on the NHRA tour. Motorsports items have been collected especially for this event from throughout the country as the sport of drag racing reaches out to support Keiffer. In addition, there will be numerous vendors, kid activities, inflatable rides, raffles, and food booths, including one from Adam’s Rib Smokehouse.

Since its’ inception in 2000, the annual Night of Fire in Salem has raised more than $70,000 for families with children that have cancer or other serious illnesses.

Admission is free for spectators. Exhibitors wishing to display vehicles can do so for $10, which includes a raffle ticket and a dash plaque, or $20, which includes a T-shirt, dash plaque, and five raffle tickets.

Gates open at 2:00 p.m. and the exciting jet car fire-up concludes the show just before 10:00 p.m. After relocating several times because of the audience size this year's event will take place in the Salem Evangelical Church Event Center parking lot on Liberty Street across from the Applebee’s near the Parkway.

A car show held over the weekend to benefit a little girl who is ill, may have turned out to be the biggest hot rod event in the history of Oregon's Willamette Valley. A variety of cars of all types were on hand at the 2009 Winter Rod and Speed Show; the event was held indoors so there was no impact from the winter weather.

Few things get a crowd more excited than watching a drag racer light the afterburner on his jet engine race car. This was just one of many attractions at this year's Night of Fire car show. Held in Keizer, proceeds from this year's event will go to fight meth problems in the Salem/Keizer community. The Night of Fire is a family event. Participants say hot rods and motorsport events represent fun for all ages.

"We've got dragsters, we've got hot rods, we've even got some of those jumpy cars like they have down in East L.A." ...Night of Fire Organizer Rich Bailey The Night of Fire Car Show in Salem Friday. The proceeds benefit a small child who is very sick, and the cross section of hot cars that turned out left nothing to be desired. One of the featured events was a low rider show and exhibition.
