Aircrew Spots New Forest Fire

The growing blaze spotted by a crew from the Civil Air Patrol is near Puzzle Creek in the Willamette National Forest.

(MOUNT JEFFERSON) - An Oregon Wing Civil Air Patrol search aircraft responding to an ELT beacon spotted a new fire about five miles south of Mount Jefferson on the west side of the Cascade crest at Saturday around 8:45 AM.

Carol Connolly, of Central Oregon Interagency Dispatch, reported that the new fire was nearly 30 acres in size and growing in a heavily forested area about three miles north of Marion Lake near Puzzle Creek in the Willamette National Forest. With the assistance of the CAP Bend Composite Squadron the ELT signal proved to be a non-distress incident was later located and secured.
