(SALEM) - The Salem-area unemployment rate remained steady in July at 5.4 percent, down slightly from 5.5 percent in June. According to state officials, the Salem-area has added some 2,000 jobs in the last 12 months. There was not a figure listed for the same number of positions vacated in the same period of time. The statewide unemployment rate for July was slightly higher than the Salem-area rate at 5.6 percent. In Linn County the unemployment rate for July was a full percentage point higher thatn Salem with an unemployment figure of 6.4 percent, while in Benton County the rate was better at 5.0 percent.
