Refugee Camp or Persecution Camp?

(SITTWE Akyab, Myanmar) - 14th August, 2012, was the Muslims’ 27th Ramadan Night in which Rohingya people celebrate Lialatul Qadar every year. I wished to visit to the Refugee Camps in Sittwe to share their feelings but I couldn’t, my friend Abdul visited there and brought a message to me. After listening the stories of Rohingya people, I came to know that it is also persecution camp for them. Along with the Refugee Camp, Budua Camp, people are crying, screaming, and begging for help.

In a strong dose of irony Rahim from Nazi, who lost his father said “This is not refugee camp, it seems to be a persecution camp, people are dying everyday, we don’t get enough food, we don’t have any medication here, I think it is worse than German Concentration Camp”

Tun Naing from Amlapara said. “What was our guilt, why did they burn our houses, and kill my family”

Shahin, 37, from Nazi said “I lost my husband and I have no tear left to flow, now, I am worry that after a few days, my kids will die, they feel severe fever and there is no medicine”

Kyaw Naing, 31, said, “Rakhine and security forces burnt our houses, killed thousands of our people, now, they don’t need to kill, these people will die themselves, we get rations twice in a week which are only for survival; we become weaker and weaker day by day, infections spread everywhere, it will be better dying by one shot than suffering here”

Saad, 32, said “What kind of humanity is it? On the one side Rakhine Buddhists can go freely, they can sell and buy, they can attend school, on the other side, we can not go out, we can’t do anything, even we can not pray today, we have no more tear to flow, now, blood will flow from our eyes. It is worse than apartheid.”

Maulvi Rashid, 45, said “UN, Turkey, Indonesia, and many other people came here, they have already seen our situation, I do hope the World will save Rohingya people, we have been suffering for many years but the World did not know our situation, now, they will help for justice, formation of UN is not in vain, OIC is not for meeting only.”

Mahmud, 21, said “Myanmar government and Rakhine Buddhist hate us because we are Muslims, there is no other reason, and can they tell us our guilty? We never did any wrong thing, we are not rebellion”

Sulieman, 55, said angrily “The government let us die here, they are taking time, they want to deport us, when UN rejected it, they plan, now, dying ourselves, every people are dying especially kids, old, and pregnant.

There are thousands of stories which I can not write here.

My friend told me that they really need protection, food, and medicine immediately in Sittwe. We got messages from other townships such as Kyauk Taw, MinPya, Maung Bwe, Punna Kyun, Pauk Taw, Rathetaung, Kyauk Pyu, and Maybun that there are thousands of Rohingya blocked by Rakhine Buddhists.

They can not go out and can not get goods for their own survival. Most of them have nothing to eat; aids can not be reached there because the authority said they can not give security for those who want to go there for help.

The government does nothing for Rohingya people except deceiving the World.

Could you please try to send international rescue teams to the all townships where Rohingya people are blocked and have nothing to eat as soon as possible?
