(THE DALLES, Ore.) - Traffic investigators say a 38-year old The Dalles resident died Thursday evening after a single vehicle crash about two miles west of The Dalles. The initial investigation by Oregon State Police troopers indicates alcohol and speed were both contributing factors in the crash. They also say a passenger in the car left the scene and was arrested on outstanding warrants and other charges. OSP Sergeant Julie Wilcox says Thursday at 7:05 p.m. a 1989 Toyota Tercel driven by Mark Acord was westbound on Highway 30 when it veered onto the gravel shoulder while negotiating a curve. "The driver over-corrected and lost control of the vehicle as it rolled multiple times coming to rest on its top blocking the highway." Wilcox says Mr. Acord was transported by ambulance to Mid Columbia Medical Center and was declared deceased. The vehicle's passenger, 52-year old Timothy Riddle of The Dalles, reportedly left the scene of the crash. "He was later located with only minor injuries. After being transported to MCMC for treatment, he was released and was taken into custody for Failure to Register as a Sex Offender, two outstanding arrest warrants (Parole Violation and Fail to Appear – ID Theft), and for Providing False Information to Police." Wilcox says he was lodged in NORCOR. Seat belts were in use for both occupants. Alcohol and speed are both factors in the crash according to Wilcox. Troopers were assisted at the scene by a deputy from the Wasco County Sheriff's Office and Mid-Columbia Fire & Rescue. The road was closed for about three hours.
