(SALEM) - Marion County Sheriff’s Office detectives arrested a Shaw man on sexual assault related charges involving children under the age of 16 years old. Lt. Bob Stai with the Marion County Sheriff's Office says the investigation began on Wednesday when his agency was contacted by an acquaintance of 56-year old Steven J. Wyler, after they discovered digital images of children who appeared to be under the age of 18 years, depicting sexually explicit conduct. Detectives say Wyler is being cooperative, and that he has identified more than one of his juvenile victims. He told detectives that the incidents occurred at locations both in and out of Marion County. Wyler has resided in the Shaw, Oregon area and is employed by a local construction company. He is currently lodged at the Marion County Correctional Facility on six counts of Sexual Abuse in the First degree and one count of Encouraging Child Sexual Abuse on the First Degree. The investigation is ongoing with many more interviews anticipated. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Detective Tyler Chapman at (503) 566-6910. Coach June 11, 2007 11:35 am (Pacific time)
There is absolutly no doubt that Steve Wyler WAS and IS a nice man. You have to be a nice man to lure young and innocent children into your world. The fact of the matter is he will never be able to take away the pain he has caused the children that he abused AND the parents of the children that he abused. He took away trust that the community had in him, he took away parents trust that we can let our kids go to other people's house's and be safe. I now can't trust anyone who coaches my children and I am constantly looking for a coach to do somethinng wrong. My faith in good people has been shattered by Steve. One person wrote that he made a mistake...in his past he made other mistakes regarding a young girl...maybe that should have been his one mistake and maybe he could have seeked help. But rather than getting treatment, he continued with his sickness. Too bad for his current victims. May he get what he deserves in prison.

The children involved in this will probably be scarred for life and Steven Wyler should not be supported. He may have been a good man before but that all changed when he touched a child.

I have know Steve since before I can remember, we were friends since before I was 4 years old. He is a man who made a bad choice in his life, but over all Steve is a very kind, funny, likable person. He is a great son to his mother and a great father to his kids. Sometime things happen to us that we do not ask for that sends us down the wrong path in life. I am praying for Steve and the kids envolved. Good people can do bad things. We are all complex personalities. Steve comes from a loving family. His parents and sibling are wonderful people. We all still love him even though what he has done was very wrong.

Steven Wyler is not likely to be 56 yrs old. I believe he graduated from either South Salem or Sprague High School class of 74. Should be 50 or 51 y/o.
