(SALEM, Ore.) - Salem's only local broadcast TV station has a new channel. KWVT is now located on Channel-17, and residents are increasingly discovering the fact that something they grew up with here, a local TV station, has returned. KWVT is nos on it’s new “analog” channel 17 located in the West Salem hills, says KWVT General Manager Ken Lewetag. "No fear KWVT will continue its local programming like high school football coming up soon as well as its great national network programming from America One." Lewetag says residents are increasingly discovering that they can depend on KWVT to continue to bring you local high school sports, local Gardening, local BAW Wrestling, locally produced music shows and so much more local TV just for the Mid Valley. "As information is available on other upcoming exciting changes we will keep you informed," Mike Mattson, Partner in the parent company Northwest Television, LLC said. Even though it is the state's capitol city, the television coverage from Portland stations is typically restricted to legislative news and the occasional major crime. The station allows many opportunities for Oregon producers and unlike cable access programs, KWVT is real broadcast TV. Residents only need a standard television antenna to watch it and an "A-B" switch for under $10 allows a home to view broadcast TV from an antenna by simply switching between broadcast, and cable or satellite programming. If you would like to see Salem's only local TV station on your cable selection in Salem, contact your local cable operator and ask them if they intend to carry it as a service to the community.
