Salem's Stage Two Water Alert Terminated

The City of Salem announced Wednesday that it has ended the Stage Two Water Alert which began Monday, July 27th 2009.

(SALEM, Ore.) - "Over the last three days, Salem has been able to produce and store seventeen million more gallons than we consumed" said Sophia Hobet, Water Services Manager.

Over the weekend, Salem was able to increase its filtration capacity. This combined with the cooler weather and conservation efforts has enabled the City to return to normal operations within the water System.

"Thank you to all citizens, businesses, organizations as well as local and state governments that helped us conserve water during this shortage" said Hobet.

The Stage Two Alert included the following voluntary measures:

No watering or irrigating of lawns, grass, or turf unless it is:

o New lawn, grass, or turf planted after March 1, 2009
o Golf course tees and greens

* No home car washing During this same period the City of Salem took the following measures:

* No parks irrigation except for sensitive areas

* No decorative fountains due to our current hot weather, the City's splash pads remained open from 10:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m.

* No vehicle washing

* No hydrant flushing

* No athletic field watering
