(LINCOLN CITY, Ore.) - Salem-News.com's Bonnie King was a featured guest Monday morning on KBCH Radio in Lincoln City. She spent half an hour talking about the difference Salem-News.com is making throughout the state, even in this coastal city.

And it was a coming home of sorts.

Both Bonnie and Tim King of Salem-News.com began their media careers while living on the central Oregon coast. They both worked for TV10, starting in 1988, where they were introduced to the television news industry. Tim was the Evening News anchor, he replaced Mark Berryhill, a Lincoln City native who today is the Vice President of News and Marketing for the Meredith Corporation, widely known for their many magazines (i.e. Better Homes & Gardens) and television station ownership, including KPTV FOX-12 in Portland, Oregon.

The Kings were later with KBCH and its then-sister station KCRF in the early 1990's. Bonnie was the dual-station's Promotions Director and Tim was the KBCH/KCRF News Director. From there, they went on to work in television in other states for a number of years, until they returned to Oregon in 2002. Salem-News.com was founded in 2004.

Bonnie was interviewed by Allyson Longueira, Lincoln City's Chamber of Commerce Executive Director, during the special program that was co-hosted by KBCH's Mary Larkin. Bonnie explained how excited the staff at Salem-News.com is to be making such a big difference in Oregon.

The Oregon coast is a unique place, and the Kings say the years they spent there left them with an understanding of what the region's strong points are.

Above all, both say they are happy to be involved in any venture that brings positive attention to Oregon's beach cities, and not just adverse reporting about traffic and overcrowding.

Tim King brought his TV camera along for the interview and taped the entire interview, it is included below.

A very real and non-pretentious interview.

I hear Les Carpenter on the V.O.A. (FOX's radio mentor), sometimes!. Amazing! it's like Diana R. taking calls on 28th st., and the younger Robertson rockin' the 5 boroughs of Neotsu, Oceanlake, Nelscott,Taft,Cutler City,!! KBCH!!! with emotional Pazazz!, and F-M KCRF where Cliver took the helm and rocked, finishing his shift just before "straight street" came on KLCC!, Nemo's Pizza!,Murphey's Sports and Imports!,The Kalamzoos! The Magpies and Cracker Barrel co-op benifits! when loggers were real men and slammed down frosted pitchers of brew with no mugs in the Siletz tavern after work, Doy Morkert arm wrestled Tom McCallum while the sunset on the river! the days when some long haired Ale enthuesiast rode his Harley from the street inside the Old Oregon., around a pool table., and back out again!,Those were the days ladies and gentlemen!..,then.., the conservatives came..., and look where we are today! Can you even find a level, slate bottomed billiard table made in the USA in this era of ..,Gingrichic-Limbaustic-Buchannism? I ask you?

Osotan; April 30, 2007 7:39 pm (Pacific time)

I'm reminded of the famous D.J. Jim Cliver who broadcast from that same studio! To the dwellers on the threshold, the riders on the storm., and to good memories of crawling kids and BBQ's, when the news was less appocalypse in a sense.., before what 9-11 did, you know what I mean?, those were great days eh?, and so is today and S-N .com told me in a foreign country of events which helped many people in positive ways for what appears to me to be an honest attempt to benefit the Oregon community. Sail on in peace S-N! I'm one of 60,000 a day that are on to you!, who would have dreamed it!?. "It's like Deja Vu all over again".
