(SALEM, Ore.) - A West Salem High School Senior has been killed in a tragic skateboarding accident.

On Monday, April 27, 2015, at about 12:19 p.m. the Polk County Sheriff's Office was dispatched to the 3100 block of Eagle Crest Road NW, Salem, where a reported longboard (skateboard) accident had occurred.

The caller was a 17-year old boy who reported that his friend, 18-year old Joshua Robertson, was unconscious from the crash.

Joshua was transported to the Salem Hospital where he was later pronounced deceased around 2:10 p.m.

Investigation determined that Joshua was riding down Eagle Crest Road NW, traveling southbound. He lost control on a corner and fell backwards, striking his head. Joshua was not wearing a helmet or other protective equipment.

Joshua was a Senior at West Salem High School. The school will have additional counseling resources available this week for students and staff.

Joshua Robertson was my cousins son, a handsome, talented, young man left this earth and his loving family far too early. Joshua as a baby would come over with the family and he would swim in our pool with mommy and daddy. we have pics of him laughing as he paddled. Joshua was respectful in his observance of his family's faith of 7 day advent. our hearts have been heavy at his loss but we rejoice that he is with our risen heavenly father, Jesus. To my aunt Jo and and uncle James, I'm so sorry he was a very loved young man and will be missed in your family. Linda Rose Brous
