Apr-28-2010 13:50TweetFollow @OregonNews Poem: Arizona Immigration Law & Senator John McCainPoetry by Luke Easter Salem-News.com"As a former marine I am honored by your call to duty & sacrifice, But you and no one alive should deny any minority a better life."
(LOS ANGELES) - What do you think of John McCain's politics? Millions of Americans see Arizona's decision to have local police officers begin enforcing immigration law. as the last thing that this nation needs. The act of singling out people on a border with a Hispanic country and somehow managing to do this without racial profiling, is viewed as a cruel fantasy by people of color in Arizona who wish to maintain a degree of privacy and dignity. Few are surprised that these are the politics of a state where on some days, there are more police cars on the freeway than civilian cars. Arizona is already the closest thing the United States has to a police state. And from this position it becomes the first state to authorize police to investigate federal immigration issues. This is not acceptable under a number of American ideals and historical patterns. ___________________________________________________________________________
Arizona Immigration Law & Senator John McCainThe year 2010, it’s April & what do you think is front-page news?
Arizona has passed a sweeping and controversial immigration bill, Is there a reason for those of Mexican descent to be upset thru panic? “Racial Profiling,” I thought there was a national, federal kind of law, Hispanics, Jews, Indians, Blacks, take heart because you’re not alone, McCain calls it Human Trafficking smuggling Mexican’s seeking work, Pimps take all the money and leave them with barely enough to eat, The negative comments are more amazing because you’ve had a taste, Yes there is the huge problem that I do agree with, the influx of drugs, Dick's daughter Liz has started a movement, “Keep America Safe,” Alcohol is even more deadly killing and maiming more by drunks, As a former marine I am honored by your call to duty & sacrifice, By Luke Easter ============================================= Luke Easter is a poet who writes about things that are very close to the heart of Salem-News.com. Another former U.S. Marine, Luke explained what drives him to try to heal the world with an approach that reaches people on a different level, one known for centuries, yet too often forgotten in the one we live in. We live in a world of social & economic injustice. The main reason for founding America in the first place was to relieve the oppression of the King of England. Patrick Henry said it best, “give me liberty or give me death.” And yet, all too often death seems to be the only way out. Why is there such a high suicide rate especially among teens, in the land of the free & the home of the brave? What makes headlines? Good news? Ha! More depressing stories than anything else. I feel poetry takes an edge off the hurt of bad news while still delivering it but in a, “glitzy” sort of way. Giving a different perspective. Kind of like slap in the face as opposed to a knife in the back. At least with the slap you’ll live to see another day and you will know whom it’s from. I wasn’t here for the beginning of the world but at 59, I just might be here for the end. Even though it’s still a knife, rhyme poetry helps to dull the blade. And that’s my job. Everyone accuses undocumented immigrants of robbing the American system, but you forget that they contribute a great amount as well. Undocumented Immigrants contribute to social security without a chance of getting any money back, they file taxes with and no money if given back, they take jobs that no American wants to do, so are they really taking more than what they are giving? Before assuming things educated yourself so you do not sound ignorant and this law is just a way to make racial profiling legal

John McCain is hero and does what's best for our country. I will always vote for him as he knows much more than our President. He's been around long enough to know how to handle our divided country. So there@!
Editor: Well you told me Jenny, and that is fine. You are more than entitled to like McCain if you want to. I know that it is hard to accept how he came home from the war to a wife who held a torch for him and immediately went and had an extramarital affair, that's a classy guy for sure. Then there is the way this former POW turned on Bobby Garwood, the last Marine to come home from being a POW in Vietnam, and I recall his calls to bomb Iran in the form of a really stupid, embarrassing song. But hey, other than wanting to crank down on people because their skin is brown, and not knowing exactly how many houses his rich ass owns, he's a pretty cool guy. I could have met him one day in Afghanistan and had a great interview, but I'm a reporter and I went on a three day combat patrol instead, I must have my priorities backwards, I could have met your hero!

"Homeland Security sparked controversy when it announced that grants to New York City and Washington, D.C., would be cut 40% while at the same time, some smaller metropolitan areas such as Louisville and Milwaukee received increases under the $710 million grant program, which rates cities' applications based on risk and need." Well, the last time I looked, (this evening) Louisville and Milwaukee were not high on the list for "Terrorist" attacks. As a matter of fact they're not high on the list for anything except the Kentucky Derby and that's only 1 of them.

Bonnie Stephens says, "Arrogance and gimmee attitudes of the Mexicans who's mind set is that they are entitled" like Americans were entitled to Indian land and their gold? Well, no wonder. Look where they got it from.

don't be stupid, it was a state law, so it has nothing to do with McCain, the law only makes state crimes things that are already federal crimes. Yes, it is a federal crime for a foreigner not to have travel documents. the suicide rate among teens is not high, teens just don't die that often. almost everything you say is a lie or a stupid misconception. you have an oversimplified view of history.
Editor: Stupid? Are you serious? You are the simpleton of the day, and McMcain is a central figure in all of Arizona's politics. To think that he had nothing to do with this is asinine. You violate our rules with your insults, and you show us what you really think of yourself by not even capitalizing your name. Take a hike, we don't need you around here.

funny..getting called a bigot for telling the truth. the sky is blue, u r a racist, the grass is green, u r a racist. this is really getting out of control
Editor: You see humor in this? I hate racist bigots. Seriously Stephen, you are OK with "gimmee attitudes of the Mexicans "- well don't ask me to explain any longer why this is a dead end.
Bonnie Stephens April 28, 2010 3:47 pm (Pacific time)
I have lived in Modesto California and grew up in Los Angeles all of my life until the last four years. Why did we move to Oregon? To get away from the arrogance and gimmee attitudes of the Mexicans who's mind set is that they are entitled to all the programs we American people have paid for. They are allowed to rob our system of our hard-earned dollars in retirements, welfare, schools, health care, you name it. Why are our jails over populated? Look at the billions of dollars of freebees granted to illegals by our treasonist politicians! What right do illegals have to protest in our country when they contribute not to the USA but to Mexico!
Get 'em outta here Arizona!!! I'm sick of any non citizen robbing us of what we've paid for. America is quickly becoming extinct.
Editor: Bonnie, I know some Native Americans who feel the same way about people like yourself, are they wrong? I just approved a comment by Douglas Benson and he, I know, is not a bigot, though he is against illegal immigration. You on the other hand, strike me as a serious bigot, and that is sad. People immigrating to the United States illegally are not all "Mexican" as you falsely stated. They are from many nations south of the U.S. border, and Mexico has its own border problems.

With all due respect to the author, if he was to look up the dept of homeland security "MIAC" report, among many other government documents, he would find that this article is null and void. The author of this article is unaware of what is really going on in this country.
Juan Mcshame will say anything to further his political career, and the bread and circus party (democrats), will overlook anything to get more votes.
Removing myself from the political parties, is a freedom that I cannot write in words. You should try it :-)
Then why are you writing here? DJ
