(BROOKINGS, Ore.) - The Oregon Civil Air Patrol has launched Cessna 182 Search Aircraft from the Brookings Airport in support of the Curry County Sheriff in their continuing search for 83 year old William Boyer who was reported missing last weekend. The CAP first became involved in the search Monday and Tuesday at the request of the Curry County Sheriff Office. CAP aircraft were on standby for the rest of the week, but resumed air search operations at about noon today at the request of the Sheriff's office. The Curry County Sheriff is the lead agency in this search and all media inquiries about the search should be directed to their office. The Oregon CAP utilizes six Cessna search aircraft such as the one above to perform air search operations in Oregon. Nationwide, the CAP has over 550 such aircraft, the largest fleet in the world, to conduct 95% of all air search and rescue operations in the continental United States resulting in an average of 100 lives saved each year.
