"Drive to Remember for Fallen Officers" to Stop in Front of State Capitol Building on Travels Through Oregon Wednesday

(SALEM, Ore.) - Approaching the month of May when several special events locally and nationally will recognize the service and sacrifice of law enforcement officers, a somber reminder will travel through Oregon.

Wednesday. the "Drive to Remember" will be on Interstate 5, making its way across the United States to help raise awareness about officers' killed-in-the-line-of-duty.

The vehicle will make a one-hour stop in the morning in front of the Oregon State Capitol building.

On April 29th, a specially designed 2007 Hummer H3 wrapped in graphics to honor those officers who died in 2008 will travel through Oregon on the first leg of a 12-day tour.

The vehicle named "Guardian One" leaves April 28th from Vancouver, British Columbia, traveling over 5,000 miles until its destination in Washington, DC on May 10th where it will participate in the National Police Week events, May 10 – 16.

"Guardian One" is scheduled to make a special stop in Salem from 8:00 a.m. – 9:00 a.m. across the street from the Oregon State Capitol in front of the Oregon State Police (OSP) General Headquarters.

"Guardian One" is wrapped in law enforcement memorial graphics with the names of American and Canadian officers killed-in-the-line-of-duty in the last year prominently displayed on the hood.

Included in the long list of names are OSP Senior Trooper Bill Hakim and Woodburn Police Captain Tom Tennant, both killed December 12, 2008 when an explosive device detonated at a Woodburn area bank.

The public is invited to see "Guardian One" and visit with drivers, Sergeant Steve Gibson, Vancouver BC Police Department, and Mr. Craig Prystay, a life-long supporter of law enforcement.

In its third year, the "Taser Foundation – Drive to Remember for Fallen Officers" is also scheduled to stop at approximately 1:00 p.m. at the Grants Pass Department of Public Safety before it continues onward to Sacramento, California.
