(SALEM) - The southbound Interstate 5 off-ramp to Kuebler Boulevard, at Exit 252 in south Salem, will be closed for four days to widen the roadway beginning Monday, May 1st through Thursday, May 4th. Drivers should allow extra time to follow detour signs to reach Kuebler Boulevard from southbound I-5, or plan to use alternate local routes.

The work at the Kuebler Boulevard interchange is part of a larger construction project to widen I‑5 in south Salem between the N. Santiam Highway and Kuebler interchange, and to replace six bridges and repair one bridge in the area. Construction on I-5 and the seven bridges is scheduled to last until July 2008.

The speed limit in the construction zone on I-5 is reduced to 50 mph. ODOT asks drivers to please slow down, watch for traffic changes and use caution while traveling through the work zone.

Southbound I-5 motorists will see detour signs well before they get to the N. Santiam Exit (Exit 253/Mission Street). Drivers can exit on to Mission Street and use local roads to Kuebler. Another option is to continue south past the Kuebler exit (Exit 252) to the Turner Road Exit (Exit 248) where they can exit the highway and then get back on I-5 going northbound to the Kuebler exit.

This project is funded through the Oregon Transportation Investment Act and the Statewide Transportation Improvement Program. The OTIA III State Bridge Delivery Program is part of the Oregon Department of Transportation's 10-year, $3 billion Oregon Transportation Investment Act program.
