Analysis Finds Salem-Keizer is Lowest Spending District on Central Administration

The analysis also found that Salem-Keizer is at or above average in spending on instructional and support services to students.

(SALEM) - A recent analysis of school districts around the State found that Salem-Keizer was the lowest spending school district on central administration in 2004-05 when compared to Oregon districts with 6,500 or more students.

This independent analysis conducted by Clem Lausberg, Ph'D, looked at expenditures of school districts in Oregon by using information from the Oregon Department of Education Data Base Initiative.

The full Lausberg analysis of expenditures per student in 2004-05:

District Administration

Salem-Keizer: $101 (lowest out of 21 comparable school districts)

Average: $147

Highest Spending: $234 (Centennial S.D.)

Grades K through 8 Instruction

Salem-Keizer: $3,162 (11th out of 21 comparable school districts)

Average: $3,204

Highest Spending: $3,708 (Portland S.D.)

Lowest Spending: $2,604 (Bend/LaPine S.D.)

Grades 9 through 12 Instruction

Salem-Keizer: $3,046 (6th out of 21 comparable school districts)

Average: $2,842

Highest Spending: $3,216 (Reynolds S.D.)

Lowest Spending: $2,252 (Corvallis S.D.)

Athletics and Activities

Salem-Keizer: $70 (16th out of 21 comparable school districts)

Average: $91

Highest Spending: $201 (West Linn - Wilsonville S.D.)

Lowest Spending: $23 (Eugene S.D.)

Special Education per IEP student

Salem-Keizer: $6,891 (4th out of 21 comparable school districts)

Average: $5,797

Highest Spending: $8,892 (Portland S.D.)

Lowest Spending: $3,341 (Roseburg S.D.)

ESL Programs (English as a Second Language)

Salem-Keizer: $1,362 (14th out of 21 comparable school districts)

Average: $1,632

Highest Spending: $3,847 (Roseburg S.D.)

Lowest Spending: $0 (Three Rivers S.D.)

TAG, Remedial and Alternative Education Programs

Salem-Keizer: $190 (8th out of 21 comparable school districts)

Average: $169

Highest Spending: $428 (Lake Oswego S.D.)

Lowest Spending: $27 (North Clackamas S.D.)

Student Services (counseling, student attendance, and health services)

Salem-Keizer: $229 (8th out of 21 comparable school districts)

Average: $199

Highest Spending: $263 (Gresham-Barlow S.D.)
