Oregon AG Hardy Myers Kicks off National Crime Victims` Rights Week on Monday

Crime Victims Rights Week this year is titled: Victims Rights: Strength in Unity,' and includes a number of events throughout the country and around Oregon scheduled to highlight the importance and increase the awareness of crime victims rights.

(SALEM) - Oregon Attorney General Hardy Myers will kick off National Crime Victims` Rights Week in Oregon on Monday during a ceremony honoring survivors of crimes, victim advocates and service professionals.

At the event, AG Myers will recognize the ongoing efforts of victim services providers, justice professionals, volunteers and advocates.

Salem Hospital, Providence Health System, and Samaritan Albany General Hospital will receive special recognition for their contributions as key partners in the public/private effort to fund the Oregon Sexual Assault Victims Emergency Medical Response Fund. Building on a three-year initiative to improve compliance of victims` rights and enhance restitution collection, Myers will also honor Clackamas County for its victim restitution program.

Guest artist and award-winning Oregonian journalist S. Renee Mitchell will present a poetic performance on victimization.

The event is open to the public, and will be held at the Department of Veteran`s Affairs Auditorium, 700 Summer Street NE beginning at noon.
