(ALBANY, Or.) - Linn County Sheriff Bruce Riley reports the body found in the Willamette River near Albany on April 20, 2014, has been identified as 45-year old Jared Ethan Brown of Portland. Detectives learned Brown had recently attempted suicide by jumping into a river from a bridge in the Roseburg area. On March 23, 2014, Roseburg Police transported Brown to an area hospital for a medical evaluation, where he was treated and released. On March 31, 2014, Brown was traveling via bus from Roseburg to the Portland area with a female companion, Shiela Smith, 67-years old, of Roseburg. The bus made a short stop in Corvallis, during which time Brown left the bus on foot. Smith reported Brown missing to the Corvallis Police Department. Smith reported that Brown may have been suffering from mental issues. The Corvallis Police Department initiated a search of the Willamette River near Corvallis but was not able to locate Brown. The identification was made by the Oregon State Police Identification Bureau using fingerprint records from one of Brown's previous arrests. The Oregon State Medical Examiner's office examined the body and determined there was no evidence of foul play. Brown was on post-prison supervision and was a registered sex offender. Sheriff Riley would like to thank the community for the numerous tips provided during this investigation. News Release from Linn County Sheriff's Office
