(OREGON CITY, Ore.) - Two 14-year old boys have been cited into Clackamas County Juvenile Court by an Oregon State Police Fish & Wildlife Division sergeant related to allegations of abuse and harassment involving a Canada Goose.

The goose may lose the use of an eye after the boys were seen hitting it with rocks and the eggs she was protecting did not survive.

On April 16, Oregon State Police received a citizens report of two juveniles throwing rocks at a Canada Goose in the Phillips Creek Water Quality Facility located in Clackamas. A witness reported observing two 14-year old boys throwing at and hitting a female Canada Goose with rocks while it was attempting to protect it's nest of five eggs.

OSP Sergeant Chris Allori responded to the scene and found the goose injured after it received an extensive head injury from the rocks thrown at it. With the help of an Audubon Society volunteer, the goose was captured and is now receiving treatment. It's survival prognosis is fair, although the goose may lose the use of its right eye. The goose's eggs did not survive.

The witness provided enough information allowing for identification of the two juvenile suspects who were contacted on that evening. Both boys were cited to appear in Clackamas County Juvenile Court for Animal Abuse in the First Degree and Harassment of Wildlife, both Class A Misdemeanors.

A person commits the crime of "Animal Abuse in the First Degree" when, except as otherwise authorized by law, the person intentionally, knowingly or recklessly causes serious physical injury to an animal, or cruelly causes the death of a animal."

A person commits the crime of "Harassment of Wildlife" when the person chases, harasses, molests, worries or disturbs any wildlife except while engaged in lawfully angling for, taking, hunting or trapping such wildlife.

They should be ashamed of themselves. Just so sad - geese will attack humans to protect their eggs/young. Too bad this goose didn't get the chance. I hope they are dealt with accordingly and I hope everyone who lives in there area shuns them for a very long time.

Prosecute them to the fullest extend, lock them up for a long time and throw away the key. And don't give me that sob story that they are just 14 years old. So what, they knew what they were doing.

It's too bad to that incidents like these are offhandedly "forgiven" by the court system. Yes, the boys were teen-agers but they very obviously know right from wrong. These are not mentally retarded people who cannot differntiate between right and wrong. Their acts were torture just as much as the the humans we try to protect from torture. Here was an "expectant mother" who was seriously injured and her unborn "children" murdered. These "boys" seriously need their a**es kicked. Had I witnessed their actions and been able to get hold of them at the time it is pretty likely that I would be sitting in jail awaiting my trial.

It makes me sick with the cruelty that this poor goose and her unborn babies suffered at the hands of these two boys! It's against the law, but it's too bad, we can't force these boys to sit still, while rocks are thrown them. I wonder how they would feel??
