Police and Firefighters Respond to Oregon Dept. of Revenue Building on HazMat Call

The state building was being secured until the substance can be checked for any possible hazard.

(SALEM) - As President Obama and several officials in the nation's capital received ricin-laced mail today, Oregon's Department of Revenue Building Capitol Mall was also evacuated over an unknown powder substance reported by an employee on the first floor.

Salem Fire Department and Oregon State Police responded to the scene at approximately 7:00 a.m.

The state building is being secured until the substance can be checked for any possible hazard.

No other information will be released until preliminary evaluation is completed.
