(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Police say further inquiry into the false Amber Alert text messages being received in Oregon has now confirmed the vehicle license plate number listed in the text message is from an actual Amber Alert issued out of Montana last week. The two children were safely recovered and their mother was arrested in Wisconsin. Oregon State Police now has learned that on April 9, 2008 an Amber Alert was issued out of Towsend, Montana for two girls ages 7 and 8 who were allegedly abducted by their 49-year old mother. The vehicle listed in that Amber Alert was a brown 2002 Jeep Liberty displaying Montana license 43-6519. The Montana Amber Alert was cancelled April 12th after the girls were safely recovered and their mother was arrested in Wisconsin. At this time, we do not know how or why this Amber Alert with another city listed as the originating location is showing up on cell phones in Oregon or other states. Anyone receiving similar cell phone text messages are asked to not forward the message as requested.
