(SALEM) - If you need more time to file your Oregon personal income tax return, filing an extension is easier than ever. If you file a federal extension, check the "extension filed" box on your Oregon return. You don´t have to attach a copy of the federal extension form to your Oregon return. "It's important to remember that an extension of time to file is not an extension of time to pay taxes you owe," said Deanna Mack, assistant policy coordinator. To file an Oregon extension, complete and return Form 40-EXT. Mail it and your check or money order by April 17 to: Extension Clerk, Oregon Department of Revenue, PO Box 14950, Salem OR 97309-0980. You cannot submit Form 40-EXT electronically. You may pay taxes owed by credit card. If you do, write "credit card payment" on Form 40-EXT directly above the amount-owed box. If you cannot pay in full, the department will help you set up a payment plan. To access the credit card service providers, or to download forms and instructions, visit www.oregon.gov/DOR. To set up a payment plan or for more information, call (503) 378-4988 (Salem area), or (800) 356-4222 (toll-free from an Oregon prefix), 7:00 AM to 8:00 PM through Monday. Customer service phones will be staffed 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM Saturday. Due to the high volume of calls the department will receive this week, you may experience extended wait times or get a busy signal. Spanish speakers may call (503) 945-8618 (Salem) or (800) 356-4222 (toll-free from an Oregon prefix). For TTY (hearing or speech impaired only), call (503) 945-8617 (Salem area) or (800) 886-7204 (toll-free from an Oregon prefix). The TTY number is answered by machine; a representative will return the call.
