(SALEM) - The official dedication of the Geer Community Park is scheduled for 10:00 AM on Saturday, April 29th.

The new 46 acre community park is located at 2605 State Street, west of Hawthorne Avenue, and was leased to the City of Salem by the State of Oregon for $1 per year to provide a community park primarily devoted to organized activities for Salem`s youth.

The first phase of the park includes: an entry road off of State Street, two soccer fields, two 90` baseball fields, restroom facilities, a maintenance building, and pedestrian pathways.

Phase 2 will include an additional soccer field, two 60`softball fields, an outdoor roller hockey rink or skateboard area, two basketball courts, playground equipment, a park shelter, additional parking, and completion of the connector road linking State Street to Hawthorne Avenue. Funding has yet to be secured for phase 2 and no construction start date has been scheduled.
