(ALBANY, Ore. ) - On Monday, at approximately 2:25 PM, the Albany Police Department responded to the 700 block of SW College Park Drive on the report of a disturbance. A caller reported that a male suspect was assaulting a female and dragging her down the street by her hair. Responding officers found the male suspect, identified as 47-year old Albany resident, James Culbertson, who was detained by a male friend of the female victim in a driveway in the 700 block of SW College Park Drive. The investigation revealed that James Culbertson, distraught over the recent breakup with his girlfriend, broke into her home in the 700 block of SW College Park drive on Monday morning. James Culbertson, who was armed with a .380 caliber semi-automatic handgun and a shotgun, waited until his former girlfriend returned home and then confronted her in the street. James Culbertson held the handgun to the head of his former girlfriend, threatened to shoot her, and then dragged her into the driveway of her home. James Culbertson assaulted his former girlfriend in the driveway and repeatedly stated he was going to kill her. The victim fought back against her former boyfriend until he was ultimately tackled by a friend of the victim. This male friend, who arrived with his wife during the struggle, disarmed James Culbertson and detained him until officers arrived. James Culbertson was taken into custody and taken to the Albany Police Department where he was interviewed. James Culbertson was then lodged in the Linn County Jail on the following charges:
Later in the evening Albany Police Detectives executed a search warrant at James Culbertson's residence located at 34774 SE Spicer Drive in Albany. Detectives seized numerous handguns and rifles as well as other items of evidentiary value. The Oregon State Police Bomb Squad also responded to James Culbertson's residence to dispose of a piece of unidentified military ordinance that was located by Albany Police Detectives during the search. This investigation is continuing and anyone with information is asked to call the Albany Police Department at 541-917-7680. Something they did not mention was that she is okay, and he didn't hurt her. This is my mom... and I just thought everyone should know. Thanks!
