(SALEM) - State troopers say a Bend woman was seriously injured Friday morning after the car she was driving crossed the centerline of Highway 22 near Detroit and collided with a trailer loaded with snowmobiles and another passenger car. 22-year old Amy Easley of Bend was westbound on Highway 22 near milepost 46 Friday morning in a Mazda Protege at 8:45 AM when, for an undetermined reason, the car crossed the centerline and struck the side of a utility trailer loaded with 3 snowmobiles being towed by a Dodge Dakota pickup. After impact with the trailer, the Mazda crashed into the left front corner of an eastbound Dodge Stratus. Easley was seriously injured in the crash and transported by Life Flight helicopter to Oregon Health Sciences University in Portland. Investigators say they have not been able to determine whether she was wearing a seat belt. The impact of the crash with the trailer dislodged the 3 snowmobiles. One of them may have struck a 4th vehicle as it came off the trailer, but OSP troopers are still piecing together the crash. The driver of the Dodge Dakota pickup, 59-year old John Fox of Oregon City, and two passengers in his vehicle were not injured. The driver of the Dodge Stratus, 46-year old Clifton Spivey of Salem, was not injured. Highway 22 was closed about 30 minutes then partially reopened until the on-scene investigation was completed. Oregon State Police troopers from the Salem Area Command are continuing the investigation. ODOT and local emergency responders assisted at the scene.
