(SALEM) - A Salem mother has been arrested for allegedly stuffing a baby wipe down the throat of her 18-month-old daughter. Salem police spokesman Lt. Bill Kohlmeyer says officers responded with medical personnel to the report of an infant not breathing on Feb. 17th, at the apartment of 23-year-old Christa Dolan on Highway Ave NE. The child was rushed to Salem Hospital, where doctors found a baby wipe in the child’s throat. Dolan was arrested on Second Degree Assault and Child Endangerment charges, and has been moved from the Marion County Jail to the Oregon State Mental Hospital. Kohlmeyer said Dolan’s other child, age one, was also placed into protective custody by DHS. What ever happened to her and her kids?
Someone who knows the actual truth April 5, 2007 2:44 pm (Pacific time)
She has been clean for 4 years. She was under a lot of pressure from a certain agency that will not be named. Yes taking care of two kids without any help and having this agency harrass her 24/7 and threaten to take her kids is a lot of pressure that is why she is now in the state hospital getting help. She did not mean for this to happen and as a other reports say she was not trying to "kill" her child. She loves her children that is why it's killing her to be away from them. She did ask for help from her so called family but they wouldnt help her.

It doesn't say anywhere in the story that it was meth related. I'm not saying it wasn't... but there are other mental health issues besides drug use. Unfortunately the act of giving birth doesn't automatically kick in some miraculous "mother instinct" that tells you how to handle everything. Its ok to ask for help when you're overwhelmed and don't know what to do. There are a lot of resources available out there. I agree with Sue C. a good mother will put her children first even if it means recognizing that what is best for them is not being with you.

Baby wipes! Thats a new one. Most of these meth moms keep their kids out of their hair with large doses of benadryl or tylenol. The abuse is less obvious and they are able to get away with it for much longer.

Everybody isn't okay to be a parent. 2 kids under 2, and possibly drugs too? Bad combo. If only parents understood that it's honorable to get help, to find a safe place for your kids, and to distance yourself if you're a risk to them. "Good" moms put their kids first, and sometimes that means not being with them. Now this girl pays the price for her lack of control, and so do her kids.

Another soul lost to meth.
