It’s Official: Controversial South Salem Strip Club Granted Liquor License

The decision is a blow to those who were fighting to keep Frank Boussad from opening Presley's Playhouse Cabaret in the former Mike's Steak & Seafood House, located in a residential part of south Salem. However, opponents vow to keep fighting to keep these types of clubs out of residential neighborhoods in Oregon.

(SALEM) - As Salem-News.com was the first to report last week, the Oregon Liquor Control Board of Commissioners has granted a liquor license to Frank Boussad who plans to open a controversial strip club in a residential part of south Salem.


Boussad has been remodeling the former Mike's Steak & Seafood House, 3803 Commercial St. SE, to turn it into Presley's Playhouse Cabaret, which will feature nude dancing.

Three Vehicle Rollover Crash in Keizer Injures Two

Fortunately police say the injures suffered in the crash were only minor.

(KEIZER) - Just after noon Friday, the Keizer Police Department received a report of a traffic crash involving three vehicles at the intersection of River Rd N and Sam Orcutt Wy NE.

Police officers arrived at the scene within minutes and found a red Ford pickup operated by 61-year-old Judy Lay on top of a red Dodge Neon.

The pickup was upside down and resting on the hood of the red Neon.

The other vehicle involved, a blue Dodge Neon, was also disabled in the roadway.

House Fire Claims Life in Keizer

The fire was discovered after a newspaper delivery person several blocks from the fire scene smelled smoke and began to find the source of the smell.

(KEIZER) - A house fire in Keizer Friday morning led to the death of a resident. Keizer firefighters responded to responded to the report of a house fire shortly before 6:00 AM on Friday.

Firefighters arriving at home at 535 Hornet Dr. North observed smoke coming from the single family dwelling. Before fire crews attacked the fire they reported that flames were visible. Following standard procedure, Fire Spokesman Jim Trett says they immediately began a search of the structure. Shortly after starting the search, a body was located in the living room of the home. They say the victim had succumbed to their injuries before the arrival of fire units.

(SALEM) - The Oregon Liquor Control Commission on Friday announced that three mid-valley businesses have settled liquor license violations.

ODOT to Host Ceremony for Rickreall Interchange

The community is invited to attend the Tuesday afternoon event, which will be held rain or shine.

(RICKREALL) - The Oregon Department of Transportation will host a ribbon cutting ceremony on Tuesday, Oct. 17th at 1:00 PM to celebrate the nearly completed Rickreall Interchange. The ceremony will be held at the Rickreall Fire Department, on the corner of Church St. and Oregon 99W in Rickreall.

Construction of the new Rickreall Interchange Project is making progress, and is scheduled to be completed on time in December.

The $16.2 million project includes construction of a bridge on Highway 99W that crosses Highway 22, and a bridge that takes eastbound Highway 22 traffic over Highway 223.

Albany Police Seize Drugs, Weapons

Two children ages 1 and 2 were taken into protective custody.

(ALBANY) - On Thursday morning, officers of the Albany Police Department conducted a welfare check at 1900 SE Del Rio Avenue #C. The welfare check was in response to a Department of Human Services (DHS) referral that there was possible drug usage and drug dealing at the residence

Officers contacted the occupants of the home and their two children ages 1 and 2.

The occupants were identified as 28-year-old Dusty Ray Anderson and 22-year-old Shawna Marie Brady. During a consent search of the home the officers located over 1/2 pound of marijuana, methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, a loaded sawed off shotgun, a .45 caliber derringer and surveillance cameras.

Increase in Animal Rabies Cases In Oregon Prompts Prevention Advice

As of Wednesday, 21 bats and two foxes had tested positive for rabies, compared with nine bats in 2005 and seven bats in 2004.

(SALEM) - The number of bats testing positive for rabies in Oregon has more than doubled over all of last year, prompting public health officials to remind people to protect themselves and their pets.

The state public health laboratory tests bats for rabies when a human exposure to a bat or animal has taken place.

"People can do two things to protect themselves and their pets from rabies," said Emilio DeBess, D.V.M., public health veterinarian in the Oregon Department of Human Services. "Never handle bats. And make sure your cats and dogs are upto date on their rabies vaccines."

Polk County Announces 2006 Flu Shot Clinic Schedule

No one will be turned away from the clinics due to inability to pay.

(DALLAS) - Flu season is quickly approaching and Polk County Public Health Officer, Jeff Humphrey, DO is urging people to learn ways to prevent getting sick and to get their flu shot.

The flu season in Oregon, typically starts in the late fall and continues through the winter months, says Humphrey.

It takes approximately 2 to 3 weeks after receiving a flu shot for your body to develop protective immunity against the flu, so he advises people to get their vaccinations in October or early November for the best protection.

A moment of silence was held at the McNary-Sprague game Thursday night to honor fallen Salem, and 2003 Sprague graduate Lance Cpl. Derek W. Jones, who died Oct. 8th from wounds received while fighting in Iraq. Jones' brother, Chad is a starting outside linebacker and running back for the Olympians.

(SALEM) - Chad Jones practiced all week with a heavy heart after losing his older brother Derek, a Lance Cpl in the U.S. Marine Corps, from wounds received while conducting combat operations against enemy forces in Iraq's Al Anbar province.
