BLM Releases Proposed Plan to Increase Timber Harvest in Western Oregon Forests

The public has 30 days starting April 8, 2016, to review the proposed RMP. Protests must meet the requirements described in the regulations.

(WASHINGTON D.C.) - Oregon forest The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has proposed a path forward for local communities in Western Oregon with a plan that will increase job growth, tourism and recreation, and timber harvest, while offering strong protections for the northern spotted owl, listed fish species, and water resources.

Once the proposed Resource Management Plan (RMP) is fully implemented, the BLM estimates that it will be able to provide 278 million board feet (mmbf) per year in total timber harvest.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Crystal Eastin I was sad to hear of the passing of Crystal Eastin Brown. I was honored to have the opportunity to visit with her on one occasion, as I've been captivated by her story for many years.

During the Vietnam War, Crystal had a relationship with John Steinbeck IV, the son of the famous US author. Both journalists, they had adventures beyond compare, and Crystal gave birth to their child while living in Vietnam, a girl they named Blake. She is the only biological grandchild of author John Steinbeck.

Kansas Judge Reverses Order to Allow Parents` Use of Medical Cannabis

They are on the road to getting their kids back, though it may still be months away.

(MANHATTAN, Kansas) - Matthew Pappas Reversing his original order in a case involving five children taken by the Department of Children and Families, a Riley County, Kansas judge has allowed use of medical cannabis by the children’s parents.

Writing that visitation with the children can continue even if the parents test positive for marijuana, the judge required them to provide proof of their medical marijuana recommendations issued in Colorado. The judge stated drug testing, “shall be for this case only and not for criminal prosecution.”

(TACOMA, Wash.) - Bangor Eight Eight activists crossed the blue line onto Naval Base Kitsap-Bangor, which represents the largest operational concentration of nuclear weapons in the US arsenal, in an act of nonviolent civil resistance.

Some staged a die-in, spreading ashes around others’ bodies on the asphalt, while two members of the group attempted to deliver a letter to the base commander urging him to uphold international law regarding nuclear weapons.
