Notre Dame (1-5) knocked UCLA quarterback Ben Olson out with a knee injury late in the first quarter, then hounded freshman redshirt McLeod Bethel-Thompson into a string of mistakes.

Waltrip didn't just turn in a good qualifying run.
He had the best one of the day, posting a fast lap of 189.070 mph to capture his first NEXTEL Cup pole since June, 2005. Dave Blaney qualified second with a speed of 188.838 mph, followed by Brian Vickers in third (188.779), Joe Nemechek fourth (188.471) and NEXTEL Cup rookie David Reuitmann fifth (188.459). (PORTLAND, Ore.) - Senior quarterback Brian White’s two-point conversion pass with six seconds left failed, allowing Northern Arizona to hold on for a 44-43 win over Portland State in a Big Sky Conference game, in front of 9,291 at PGE Park Saturday afternoon.
The two teams combined for 55 first downs and 1,011 yards of offense. The Vikings had 29 first downs and 516 yards of offense, while the Lumberjacks registered 26 first downs and 495 yards of offense.
