Police Seek Information About Fatal Motorcycle Crash South of Cottage Grove (UPDATE)

UPDATE- All lanes on I-5 are now clear. A vague description of the commercial truck is unknown make/model/color, towing a box style trailer either light orange or brown in color.

(COTTAGE GROVE) - Oregon State Police are seeking witnesses related to this afternoon's fatal motorcycle crash in the northbound lanes of Interstate 5, south of Cottage Grove.

OSP troopers say that around 2:40 PM, a motorcycle was northbound on I-5 near milepost 170 in the left lane when an unknown commercial truck moved into the left lane from the right lane.

The motorcycle operator moved to the inside shoulder to avoid the truck, lost control and laid down on its side. The operator reportedly struck a guardrail and was killed.

According to witnesses, the truck continued northbound without stopping.

State Troopers are asking for information regarding the truck and driver. A vague description of the commercial truck is unknown make/model/color, towing a box style trailer either light orange or brown in color.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Oregon State Police Northern Command Center dispatch at 1-800-452-7888.

One lane remained closed during the investigation and reopened at 4:30 PM.
