Fatal Crash Closes Hwy 101 Near Tillamook for Hours

Hwy 101 is a beautiful drive, but it is too often the scene of tragedy such as this. OSP reminds drivers to be aware, and stay safe.

(TILLAMOOK, Ore.) - A Louisiana woman died Friday afternoon when the vehicle she was riding in was struck by a sport utility vehicle that crossed the center line of Highway 101 near Tillamook. A Toyota Highlander driven by 43-year old Jesse James Moore, from Tillamook, was northbound on Highway 101 at about 3:24 PM near milepost 67 when it crossed the center line and collided nearly head-on with a southbound Chrysler 300 four-door rental car driven by 74-year old Shirley Scarce, from Lafayette, Louisiana, according to Oregon State Police collision reconstructionist Senior Trooper James Pierce. The right rear Chrysler passenger, 75-year old Lou Ella Trahan, from Kaplan, Louisiana, died as a result of the crash.

Scarce was transported by ambulance to a unknown Portland-area hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The Chrysler's right front passenger 70-year old Ella Mestayer from Unew Iberia, Louisiana, was transported to Tillamook Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The left rear passenger, 63-year old Marie Meier from Lafayette, Louisiana, was transported by LifeFlight air ambulance to a Portland-area hospital with serious injuries. Moore was transported by ground ambulance to Tillamook Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. All occupants were using safety restraints. This hit home with me and I'm sorry for your loss. I just lost my 16 year old daughter Rebeckah-Jo Crisman-Tanner on Jefferson-Marion Rd on August 26, 2008. She was the back seat passenger in a vehicle driven by Ms. Williams, whom was accused of "Huffing" "Whipit's", blacking out and hitting a tree. This tragic car crash has devisated mine and my family’s life, not to mention Ms. Williams family and those families of the other passenger's. I'm by no means trying to make this about my loss, just letting you know....I'm in your shoes...(some what). My heart goes out to you and your entire family. I hope the driver that caused this heartbreaking incident had insurance....which will assist you and your's in this time of need. I know of any one.....no amount of money can replace the loss of a loved one, but the driver of the car my daughter was in had no insurance......after the $47,000.00 dollar Hospital Emergency Room bill I just received, she might as well took my life too. This sudden loss of my daughter is still new to me, I would like to know how others in our same situation manage to move forward. Again, my thoughts are with you in this grieving time.

Shelby.. my utmost condolences. I would say more, but I would start cursing. I will say a prayer tonight for comfort to those who lost a friend or loved one.

He was under the influence of drugs. Police said he fell asleep. I really wish I could give him a piece of my mind. Because the driver is my grandma, and Lou Ella was my cousin, and Ella was my aunt, and Marie is a close family friend. And all they wanted to do was travel to Washington for a vacation. Some vacation, right?

does anyone know anything about this accident? was the driver who crossed the centerline intoxicated or high?
