(SALEM, Ore. ) - Salem police are asking for the public's help in locating a man they say attacked a veterinarian outside a Market Street animal clinic last night.

Police say the veterinarian saw a man and woman arguing outside of the clinic, and she tried to break it up. The man then attacked the vet, knocking her to the ground, and tried to strangle her police said.

Both the man and woman fled the scene on foot. Salem police and a K-9 unit tried to locate them but were unsuccessful.

The man was described as Hispanic, in his mid-20's, 5 feet 7 inches tall, with a stocky build and shaved head. Police hope to use surveillance video from a nearby bar to better i-d the suspect.

The veterinarian was shaken up but not seriously hurt.

Anyone with information on this case, or the suspect, is urged to contact Salem police at 503-588-6123.

In my youth before learning some modicum of wisdom I, too, injected myself into a domestic issue. I was walking by a NYC alley and heard sounds of scuffling and a woman crying out against an attacker. Being more physically fit than now (around 6'1" 240 solid lbs) at 18 I stepped into the alley to see a guy a little smaller than me beating up a small young woman who had her hands up shielding herself. So I grabbed the guy's swinging arm, he stopped, turned, tried to attack me so I picked him up and threw him into a pile of trash. I turned to give aid to the woman only to get smashed in the face with a garbage can lid by this same woman howling at me about how dare I attack her husband?! I lit out quick as a bunny from that dysfunctional freak show and have been very circumspect in interfering with domestic squabbles ever since. Ah well...

Yikes. Certainly sympathetic to the victim for this unwarranted attack, but this is a good example of why you should contact the authorities and not interject yourself into a bad situation.
