Roseburg Man Caught With 30 Grams of Meth

Smoke-filled car alerted the Trooper to suspect

David Waite
OSP

(WILSONVILLE) - A Roseburg-area man was arrested Thursday afternoon at a rest area south of Wilsonville when an OSP trooper spotted suspected drug activity in the man's pickup and later found nearly 30 grams of methamphetamine concealed inside.

On November 9, 2006 at approximately 3:14 PM, Oregon State Police Senior Trooper Michael Iwai was driving through the Baldock Rest Area on the northbound side of Interstate 5 near milepost 282 when he saw mass smoke inside a 2001 Toyota Tacoma pickup. Senior Trooper Iwai stopped and approached the pickup. When the man inside rolled down the window, he could smell what was believed to be a chemical odor and saw other indicators of drug activity.

OSP Senior Trooper Joseph Delgreco and his drug dog, Reggie, were patrolling nearby and responded to assist. With help of Reggie, the troopers subsequently found approximately 30 grams of methamphetamine and less than an ounce of marijuana inside the pickup, some of which was hidden under the glove box and inside vents.

31-year old David Charles Waite, from Roseburg, was taken into custody and lodged at Clackamas County Jail for Possession and Delivery of a Controlled Substance – Methamphetamine. He was also cited to appear for Possession of Less than an Ounce of Marijuana.

Henry...put up your ID...your phone # so we can call you and find out if you really exist. For all we know you just might be a a computer bot spewing out spam messages all the time. What's your ID? Post up your drivers license, show us all who you are.

Henry Ruark November 15, 2006 8:27 pm (Pacific time)

Kurt et al: We are simply wasting time, words, space-here if you have so little trust in your information that you cannot ID self and share sources... ANY rational, reasonable dialog requires that both participants are well-enough known to each other for that trust and confidence to happen. Without that non-ID'd simply spouting off knowing so hidden as to permit anything-stated without consequence...which surely ain't either rational or reasonable.

Hank, We lead the world because we are the most corrupt country in the world. Put a fancy suit on a polititian and let him babble about Let Freedon Ring and God Bless America and he can pick the average Americans pockets till they are in the streets.

Henry Ruark November 14, 2006 2:20 pm (Pacific time)

Mary, Kurt: Much you mention "right on" -- in Chicago during gang-wars and start of some-of-this...but if We so stupid, how come we lead world in so much, even yet ?? Let's fix what's "wrong" and keep the rest...

Kurt Huckee November 13, 2006 5:23 pm (Pacific time)

Go Mary, Go! I couldn't have said it better myself. You are a diamond in the ruff. The funny thing is, I don't even use drugs! Well, maybe a prescription here or there.

Mary November 13, 2006 3:16 pm (Pacific time)

The "drug war" has been a total failure for society as a whole. It has made for big bucks in government and huge profits for the great and powerful drug cartels in south america. I believe the worst of all offenses committed by the "War on Drugs" has been to make it so easy for people to get used to the idea that they are better people, real people, verses "druggies" so have the right to comdemn and judge without making any real effort to understand or assist their fellow man. I believe without the war on drugs our society would be far more compassionate and wealthy. Alcohol is by far the most dangerous of all substances out there and we all can thank prohibition and drug laws for the mobs and cartels being as powerful and detrimental as they are. The people just want to believe what they are told without so much as a peek into what the world could be like if only......Yeah Kurt, americans are quite dumb and it's thier own fault.

Lack of sleep kills. Drivers and other workers are pushed to work longer and longer hours to survive. If you do not make enough money to eat properly or have money for medical care, you die. God Bless America?

Kurt Huckee November 13, 2006 8:33 am (Pacific time)

Julia, I am sorry that your husband was killed by someone not responsible enough to stay home and do drugs. I am not making light of your loss. It is truly terrible. People are so focused on the dangers of drug use when behind the wheel. I myself have experienced something worse than drug use behind the wheel. It is called sleep deprivation and screws me up more than any drug can. Often I choose to pull over and sleep, but because of fear of police harassment, all too often I will keep driving. Or I may be in a bad neighborhood.....no cat naps there. Some people are hyped up on coffee, can we now make it illegal to be on caffeine when driving? There is also nothing worse than a 17 year old behind the wheel; talk about life-threatening. We live in an imperfect world and death for all is inevitable. We can not control or sue life. The law can be "no drugs while driving." The law should not be "no drugs."

Donna November 13, 2006 8:17 am (Pacific time)

Julia, People get killed by drunken drivers every second...and drinking is legal. So what's your point? Bad things happen to people even when their carefull. Sorry about your loss.

Julia November 12, 2006 9:51 pm (Pacific time)

Donna, You are mistaken if you think drug use is only a personal matter what someone does with his own body. Three years ago, a meth user who was driving on I-5, fell asleep at the wheel, after he'd been bingeing on meth. At 70 mph, his Jeep collided with my husband's truck. My husband was killed. The meth user only bruised his shoulder. He got 6 months in the county jail. I will never get my husband back. Meth kills. I hope you see the danger before you are harmed.

Dear Donna, Do you wanna know something? You are absolutely right. If you do not commit a crime a person should be able to use marijuana, laetrile (vitamin B17) or whatever works for them. Big pharma wants everything to cost BIG. That is why vitamin B17 is not readily available. It is a cheap cancer treatment with a very high rate of success. This has been all covered up since the late 60's. Cheap cures do not make people in the medical profession or big pharma rich. It is just that simple. You stupid Americans watching your football and sitcoms when you should be doing research!

Donna November 12, 2006 1:11 pm (Pacific time)

Can't post link
As far as being legal, who cares/ If a person wants to sniff glue or suck down some nitous oxide who's gonna stop them? Don't we have the right to do what we want with our own bodies? Any comments? Donna

Big Deal! He's good looking enough to be a model so let him get a job in Milan. As long as you do not hurt anyone, legalize all drugs. The C.I.A. distributes them anyway. Dumb Americans!
