Oregon Ducks

(EUGENE, Ore.) - The Willamette University women's basketball team faced NCAA Division I opponent University of Oregon on Wednesday in an exhibition game at McArthur Court. The Bearcats were defeated by the Ducks, 121-41. Willamette was led by senior Alex Zennan (G, Sammamish, WA/Eastlake HS), who scored a team-high 14 points.

The game marked the start of the final season at Mac Court for Oregon basketball. The Ducks first played at Mac Court in 1927. Oregon will begin play at the new Matthew Knight Arena later this season.

The Ducks, who play in the Pac-10 Conference, are known for their full-court press, fast break and up-tempo offense. Oregon Head Coach Paul Westhead used 14 players in the game, with no player earning more than 19 minutes of play.

The Bearcats connected on 15 of 59 field goal attempts and shot 25.4% from the field. Zennan went 4 of 12 from 3-point range on her way to scoring 14 points. She also added eight rebounds and three assists.

Freshmen MacKenzie Lamson (F, Portland, OR/Lincoln HS) and Rebecca Josephson (F, Fair Oaks, CA/Del Campo HS) each chipped in six points for the Bearcats. Senior Erin Barclay (G, Snohomish, WA/Bothell HS) came off the bench to contribute five points.

Kaileigh Westermann (Jr., F, Belfair, WA/South Kitsap HS) pulled down eight rebounds in just 13 minutes of play for the Bearcats. Willamette was out-rebounded 68-48 during the game.

The Ducks used a balanced scoring attack as nine players earned eight points or more. Ashley Buis had a game-high 18 points for Oregon. The Ducks shot 37.6% from the field and made 41 of 109 shots.

WU will play in Portland, Oregon, against Concordia University in the regular season opener on November 19, before returning to Salem for the Bearcats' home opener against Northwest Christian University on November 20th.
