(SALEM, Ore.) - As Halloween fell on a Friday this year, Oregon State Police, ODOT and county and city police agencies urged parents, children and motorists to take special care, to be alert, and drive sober because Oregon statistics showed during the last ten years all eight traffic fatalities on Halloween night was associated with an impaired driver. The increased DUII enforcement was part of the national "Drunk Driving. Over the Limit. Under Arrest." campaign. Preliminary OSP DUII arrest information indicates between 6:00 PM, October 31st, and 5:59 AM. November 1st, troopers reported 15 DUII arrests. The OSP Springfield office reported 4 DUII arrests during the time period; Salem and McMinnville offices each reported 2 DUII arrests, and all other offices reporting a DUII arrest had one each. As part of an interagency DUII enforcement plan during OSU Homecoming weekend, Corvallis police, Benton County sheriff deputies, and Oregon State Police troopers made 5 DUII arrests and issued numerous underage drinking citations in the Corvallis area overnight. The stepped up enforcement efforts to find and remove intoxicated drivers during the OSU Homecoming weekend will continue Saturday evening in conjunction with the OSU / Arizona State University football game. Helping area police agencies is the Mobile DUII Processing Center, a 2007 36-foot Winnebago Voyage motorhome retrofitted with equipment necessary to test and process intoxicated drivers. It will remain in Corvallis through the weekend. OSP troopers investigated one fatal traffic crash during the Halloween night period when a Lincoln City woman died after her car left Highway 101 south of Depoe Bay and crashed head-on into a tree. No information is available at this time confirming the cause and any contributing factors in this crash. A news release was sent earlier this morning with details about this fatal traffic crash. No other information is available about other fatal crashes that were investigated by other police agencies.
