(SALEM, Ore.) - Oregon State Police major crime detectives are investigating a suspicious death of a male who was found deceased Thursday morning in the vicinity of Cascade Gateway Park west of Interstate 5 in Salem.

Oregon State Police Spokesman Lt. Gregg Hastings says today at approximately 6:00 a.m. Salem police and firefighters responded to a report of a possible deceased male southwest of the Interstate 5 and Highway 22 interchange on the east edge of Cascade Gateway Park.

Upon their arrival they confirmed the man was deceased, Hastings said.

Because the location is on state highway right-of-way, Salem-area OSP major crime detectives responded and are leading the investigation with the assistance of the Marion County medical examiner.

The man is identified as 27-year old Robert Ray Workman who has no known permanent address and was living at nearby transient camp in the park's vicinity.

No additional information is being released at this time.
