THE GOVERNOR WILL SPEAK AT THE WILLAMETTE NATIONAL CEMETERY DURING THEIR MEMORIAL DAY CEREMONY THAT IS SCHEDULED TO BEGIN AT 10:00 AM. A CREWMAN FROM A 280-FOOT VESSEL WAS AIRLIFTED BY THE US COAST GUARD SUNDAY MORNING 34 MILES OFF THE OREGON COAST NEAR COOS BAY. COAST GUARD OFFICIALS SAID THE 13TH COAST GUARD DISTRICT`S COMMAND CENTER IN SEATTLE RECEIVED A CALL AT 9:30 AM, FROM THE HEALTH PROVIDER ABOARD THE FISH PROCESSING VESSEL AMERICAN DYNASTY REQUESTING MEDICAL ASSISTANCE FOR A 47-YEAR-OLD CREWMEMBER SUFFERING FROM A POSSIBLE HEART ATTACK. THE CREWMEMBER WAS TRANSPORTED TO AIR STATION NORTH BEND, THEN TRANSFERRED VIA AMBULANCE TO BAY AREA HOSPITAL IN COOS BAY FOR FURTHER TREATMENT. AN EARTHQUAKE RATTLED OFF THE OREGON COAST ON SATURDAY. THE 4.8 QUAKE, STRUCK AT 12:50 PM, AND WAS CENTERED 194 MILES WEST OF COOS BAY. THE QUAKE HAD A DEPTH OF JUST OVER 6 MILES. THE INDEPENDENCE POLICE DEPARTMENT IS SEEKING RESERVE OFFICERS AND CADET EXPLORERS. TO QUALIFY FOR THE RESERVE POLICE OFFICER POSITIONS. APPLICANTS MUST BE AT LEAST 21-YEARS OLD BY APRIL 1ST, HAVE A HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA, BE OF GOOD MORAL CHARACTER, AND HAVE A CLEAR CRIMINAL RECORD ANYONE INTERESTED IN EITHER POSITION SHOULD OBTAIN AN APPLICATION AT THE INDEPENDENCE POLICE DEPARTMENT 240 MONMOUTH STREET OR VISIT: independencepolice.org. CITY OF SALEM PUBLIC WORKS CREWS ARE CURRENTLY IMPROVING DOWNTOWN SALEM SIDEWALKS. THE IMPROVEMENTS ARE PART OF THE DOWNTOWN STREETSCAPE IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM THAT HAS BEEN IN PLACE SINCE 1985. CREWS HOPE TO HAVE THE WORK COMPLETED BY JULY 30TH. CREWS WILL ALSO BE RECONSTRUCTING FALLING TILE ON AREAS OF EXISTING STREETSCAPE THROUGHOUT THE DOWNTOWN AREA. ALL PASSES WILL BE AT APPROXIMATELY 1,000 FEET AND AT 350 KNOTS. FLIGHTS COULD BE CANCELLED OR TIMES CHANGED DUE TO INCLEMENT WEATHER OR OPERATIONAL CONTINGENCIES. A COMPLETE LIST OF FLYOVER SITES AND TIMES CAN BE FOUND ON OUR WEBSITE SALEM-NEWS.COM. OREGONIANS ARE GIVING TO CHARITY IN EVER INCREASING NUMBERS, ACCORDING TO A NEW STUDY FROM THE GIVING IN OREGON COUNCIL.
