(COTTAGE GROVE, Ore.) - Police say two members of the Cascade Senior High School softball team from Turner, Oregon and an adult male driver of a vehicle were injured Tuesday evening when the team's bus collided with vehicle that was stopped in a northbound lane of Interstate 5 about four miles south of Cottage Grove. Oregon State Police troopers from the Springfield Area Command office are investigating the crash. They have identified the operator of the bus as 74-year old Edward M. Draker of Salem. OSP Lieutenant Mike Bloom says tonight at approximately 7:40 p.m. a passenger vehicle driven by 48-year old David Vale of Milwaukie, was stopped in the right northbound lane of Interstate 5 near milepost 170. "Troopers are looking into the possibility the vehicle's driver may have been experiencing a medical problem," Bloom said. "A Cascade School District bus transporting the Cascade Senior High School girls' softball team was northbound at approximately 55 mph when it collided into the stopped passenger vehicle." Two high school softball team members were injured according to Bloom, and transported to Sacred Heart Hospital at RiverBend for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. He says the softball team was returning from a game in Sutherlin. Vale was also transported to an area hospital with unknown injuries, police said. Bloom says OSP troopers, ODOT, and South Lane Fire & Rescue responded to the scene.
