(ASTORIA, Ore. ) - The Coast Guard is continuing the search for Charles Hindenburg who went missing after his jet ski ran aground Sunday night at Cathlamet Bay near Astoria, Oregon.

Hindenburg was last seen wearing a yellow wet suit and was operating a yellow jet ski.

Hindenburg contacted Clatsop County marine deputies after his jet ski ran aground on mud flats during low tide.

He told deputies that he wanted to wait until the tide came in to re-float his vessel. Hindenburg had a working cell phone and he was asked to contact authorities once he was ashore. The deputies left Hindenburg with a shovel and some water and advised him that high tide would be around 10:51 PM.

The Coast Guard has not heard from Hindenburg since he ran aground. Calls to his cell phone and home phone also have not been returned.

Officers from the Portland Police Department verified that Hindenburg is not at his home.

Coast Guard HH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crews from Coast Guard Air Station Astoria, Ore., were launched at first light and are continuing the search for Hindenburg.

Additionally 25-foot rescue boat crews from Coast Guard Station Cape Disappointment and Coast Guard Station Portland are conducting searches along the river.

Anyone who has had contact with Hindenburg is asked to contact the Coast Guard at (503) 861-6211.

The Coast Guard emphasizes the importance and promotes the use of float plans.

A float plan is a written statement of the details of an intended voyage usually filed with a friend, neighbor and/or marina operator or; a document that specifically describes the vessel, equipment, crew, and itinerary of a planned voyage.
