(TIGARD, Ore. ) - Tualatin Valley Firefighters are on the scene of a fire at a construction site where a debris pile from the demolition of an old building has caught fire.

It's producing flames about 20-feet in height which are visible from Highway 99-W about 400-feet away.

The location is at 11645 SW Pacific Highway in Tigard.

The incident began at 3:00 AM Monday morning.

Firefighters have attempted to extinguish the flames, but are unable to do so until they bring in an excavator to assist in opening up the debris pile.

Additionally, due to current weather conditions, each time firefighters attempt to extinguish the flames, large amounts of smoke drift into the nearby residential neighborhood.

Firefighters are allowing the rubble pile to burn until the heavy demolition equipment arrives.

They will remain on-scene to ensure flames do not spread to any nearby property which is about 120-feet away.
