Several Serious Crashes on Oregon's Roads Monday

Drownings, severe heat and fatal car crashes have kept the state’s emergency services hopping in recent days. The summer is off to a bad start and it could get worse.

(SALEM) - State Police troopers are on the scene of a serious traffic crash involving injuries at Highway 551 and Keil Road near the Aurora Airport. Troopers say the crash happened just before 4:00 PM. Roads are closed in the area as emergency personnel and investigators deal with the reported Head-on with multiple injuries. Oregon State Police and LifeFlight on scene, and additional personnel are Enroute. Drivers are advised to avoid the area. Oregon State Police are on scene at two fatal crashes In other parts of the state. A driver died in a single vehicle crash on Highway 30 between North Powder and Haines in eastern Oregon. Troopers say the driver apparently left the highway, resulting in the crash. Investigators say traffic is getting through the area. Police say two cars crashed head-on Monday afternoon on Highway 140E east of Klamath Falls near milepost 35. One person died and the highway remains blocked. Oregon's older two-lane highways often lock completely up when a crash happens. Many are caused by reckless drivers who tailgate and fail to use turn signals when passing. Oregon's roads are far out of date for the amount of traffic that passes on them. People need to use sense. There are road construction projects throughout the state as officials try to meet the growing demand. Those changes and improvements cost millions and millions of dollars, they are long and often inconvenient, but they will eventually make a big difference. Impatient drivers need to slow down and think about the grisly, awful crash scenes that we have all passed while driving here.
